Our Water Damage Restoration Process
The remediation process for water damage should begin within 24-48 hours. The sooner the drying process begins, the easier the water remediation process will be. Depending on the size of your property and the extent of the damages, we customize this process to best suit your needs. No matter what—we believe in 100% transparency so you always know where we’re at in the process.
1. Initial Inspection
Within an hour of contact, one of our professionals will inspect the damage, identify affected areas, and categorize the type of damage to determine the level of repair required for complete recovery.
2. Extracting Standing Water
After the initial inspection, we use extractors such as industrial vacuums and submersible pumps to remove water. We also use tools such as infrared thermal cameras to detect hidden water.
3. Drying the Affected Area
There are multiple methods to drying a water-damaged area—each depending on the severity and location of damage and water presence. We utilize heavy-duty fans, dehumidifiers, and other tools to thoroughly dry and dehumidify affected areas.
4. Cleaning and Sanitizing
With the proper safety precautions, we disinfect all affected areas. This includes removing mold and any lingering water to ensure floors, cabinets, and countertops are thoroughly cleaned and ready for use.
5. Restoration and Reconstruction
Our final step focuses on structural renewal. We’ll remove all unsalvageable parts, whether that be falling apart drywall, carpet padding, wood rot, etc., and help you repair and restore them to their former glory.
WHAT TO DO WHEN WATER DAMAGE STRIKES
When water damage occurs at your home, it’s crucial to prevent further damage from occurring. Take a look at some tasks you should do to prevent more wreckage and some things you should avoid.
DO'S
- Call AllPhase Restoration for immediate help and to mitigate any further water or mold damages.
- Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping and blotting with clean towels.
- Turn on air conditioning for maximum drying in summer. In winter – open windows to aid in drying out your home.
- Use dehumidifiers, if available. Use fans to circulate air and assist in drying if the damage just happened.
- Remove rugs from wet wall-to-wall carpeting.
- Lift draperies off carpet, loop through a plastic (not wire) coat hanger, and place the hanger on the drapery rod.
- Open drawers and cabinet doors for complete drying.
- Remove all contents from the affected area(s) to speed up drying time.
- Dry wet contents in a timely fashion.
DON'Ts
- Don’t leave books, magazines, or other colored items on wet carpets or floors.
- Don’t use your household vacuum to remove water.
- Don’t use TVs or other appliances while standing on wet carpet or floors, especially not on wet concrete floors.
- Don’t turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet, and keep out of rooms where water-damaged ceilings are sagging from retained water.
- Don’t go into rooms with standing water if the electricity is still on.
- Don’t go into flooded basements with standing water or raw sewage.
- Don’t lift tacked-down carpet without professional help. Lifting the carpets incorrectly could promote shrinkage or backing deterioration.
8 STEPS TO TAKE WHEN WATER DAMAGE STRIKES YOUR HOME
When water damage occurs in your house, it’s important to act quickly and take the right steps to keep everyone safe and prevent further damage.
Turn off the main valve to the whole house, if needed. If you don’t know where it is or how to do it, now is the time to learn. Ask a spouse, plumber, handyman, neighbor, or anyone who may know. It will save you a lot of grief later. Even a few minutes saved will make a large difference and subsequently cut down on the time it takes to clean the water up.
Turn off any breakers to the affected rooms and unplug any electrical appliances until you know for certain they are safe. Watch your step as mud and water can be slippery. Rescue the most valuable items and sentimental things first. In this situation, time is of the essence.
Depending on whether you are dealing with water damage from a storm or from a flood, cover any holes in the roof or move vulnerable items to higher ground. If it’s not possible to move large furniture, put wood blocks or styrofoam under them, as rust and furniture marks are the hardest to remove from carpet.
How much water got in the house? You can probably handle small to medium amounts of “clean water” (rain or tap water) on hard surfaces and floors.
Call your insurance agent if the water damage is beyond your scope. AllPhase Restoration can also help with the insurance claims process if need be.
If you can, sweep out, mop, and vacuum as much water as possible, and wash and dry any fabrics. Get as many fans as you can to start air movement. If the carpets have gotten wet, it is crucial to call a professional water damage restoration company immediately, since water can run underneath the surface and cause water damage problems later, such as mildew, mold, and bad odors.
If your water damage problems stem from rising floodwaters or unsanitary sources, such as tubs or sinks, it is called “gray water,” and precautions must be taken. Use gloves and rubber boots, and use disinfectants on surfaces during and after the drying process. If you have sewage on your property, it’s important to use extreme caution. Keep pets and children away from the area, as this is a health hazard — the pollutants in this “black water” have been known to kill. You must hire professional help. All carpeting and padding must be thrown away, sheetrock must be removed and disposed of, and remaining materials must be disinfected and sanitized.
If there is an unusual amount of water, or several hours have passed before you found the water damage, it probably means that the water damage has started to permeate the walls. A professional is needed to handle this kind of water damage repair. AllPhase Restoration can apply anti-microbial cleaners (chemicals to prevent mold from forming and deodorize at the same time) to all surfaces and even into drywall spaces.
